US President Donald Trump suspends Coronavirus WHO funding. In what can be considered to be a very shocking move, the President of America, Donald Trump, has suspended funding to the WHO (World Health Organization), for COVID-19.
In response to the action of US President Donald Trump, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, told the US President:
“If you don’t want many more body bags, then you refrain from politicizing it.”
According to a statement by WHO, the US accounted for around 14.6% of its funding, in the 2018-2019 fiscal period. Reports say that during the current two-year fiscal period, the US has promised $893 million, to WHO.
US President Donald Trump claimed that WHO had not obtained accurate information, with regards to the Coronavirus issue in China. The US President also criticized the WHO for its recommendation that countries should not close their borders as an alleviation measure. US President Donald Trump said that it was this very failure to close the borders, in the early stages of Coronavirus, which was one of the “great tragedies”.
