Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi back as royal consort.
The king of Thailand, King Vajiralongkorn, has restored Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi to her position as royal consort, almost a year after she was deprived of it.
King Vajiralongkorn restored Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi’s position and title on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. She had been stripped of her post in October 2019, just a few months after receiving the honor. The king, now spends most of his time in Germany and has seven children in all.
In July 2019, Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi was given the official title of first Royal Noble Consort. A little while later, the king married his fourth wife Queen Suthida.
The monarch had said she would be punished for trying to promote herself to the same position as that of the queen. Sineenat became the first royal consort, since nearly a century in Thailand. In Thailand, the term consort, refers to a spouse or companion, in addition to the wife of the king.
Just a few months later, in October, Sineenat was suddenly removed from her position. The real reason for the removal of Sineenat and her subsequent reinstatement – as royal consort, will quite likely be a mystery forever. This is because of the secrecy which surrounds the royal court in Thailand.
Thailand’s lese-magistrates law prohibits any criticism of the monarchy, with harsh prison sentences for those who break the law.
In 1996, the king denounced his second wife, who fled to the United States, and disowned the four sons she had by him.
In 2014, Srirasmi Suwadee, the king’s third wife, was also stripped of all her titles and expelled from the royal court. Her 14-year-old son is being raised by King Vajiralongkorn in Switzerland and Germany.
Before entering into a relationship with Vajiralongkorn, the then crown prince of Thailand, Sineenat worked as a nurse. Eventually Sineenat became a parachutist, pilot and bodyguard and then joined the Thailand Royal Guards. In early 2019, Sineenat was made Major- General. Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi was born in 1985 and she is from Northern Thailand.
