Gérardmer 2021 Film Fest To Be Held Virtual

Gérardmer 2021 film fest to be held virtual!

Gérardmer 2021 brings together all the ingredients of previous editions, but with a big difference. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, its organizers have chosen, in agreement with the city of Vosges, a 100% digital version.

The 28th edition of the film festival kicks off this Wednesday. It will be entirely virtual and will present many feature films whose release is suspended when theaters reopen. An option chosen by other festivals at the start of the year, but which is not unanimous.

In total, nearly thirty feature films will be available at Gérardmer 2021, from noon this Wednesday and until Sunday, via a secure platform, only accessible from France. A sign of the attractiveness of amateurs for this unique experience, the 400 passes at 50 Euros, giving access to all the programming, were sold in less than an hour.

For latecomers, each film will be accessible for five Euros, at the time of their choice. Four classics of the genre will also be broadcast for free, as will a series of meetings with jurors and competing filmmakers, broadcast via social networks.

Chaired by French filmmaker Bruno Bonnello, the jury, made up of actor Gaspard Ulliel, writer Maxime Chattam and comedian Nora Hamzawi, will award its Grand Prize among the twelve films in competition.

Without the Covid 19 health crisis, some would have already been released in theaters, like the French nuggets La Nuee by Just Philippot and Teddy by Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma or even the highly anticipated Possessor by Brandon Cronenberg.

Gérardmer is not the only cinematographic event to have given in to the all-digital temptation at the start of the year. The Premiers Plans d’Angers Festival, dedicated to the first films, takes place online from January 25 to 31. The Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival will do the same, from January 31 to March 8. For its part, the Alpe d’Huez Comedy Film Festival, which was to be held from January 19 to 24, is currently postponed to the end of March.

All eyes are sure to be on Gérardmer 2021!
