Coronavirus spreads to every nation in Africa!
The African continent has a populace of around 1.2 billion. And the bad news is that the Coronavirus pandemic has spread to every nation in Africa!
Matshidiso Moeti, WHO’s Africa Regional Director stated:
“Until such time as we have access to an effective vaccine, I’m afraid we’ll probably have to live with a steady increase in the region…”
As compared with other parts of the world, Coronavirus has spread a lot more slowly in Africa. But now, the New Coronavirus is also spreading to rural areas in Africa, which is ringing alarm bells for experts.
Dr. Samba Sow, a WHO special envoy says:
“[COVID-19] shows that the health care systems even in places like Europe and Asia and the U.S. are very, very limited. The health care systems in Africa are weak. There are not many African countries with adequate laboratories or trained personnel to detect and diagnose the problem.”
The Coronavirus pandemic is now spreading rapidly all across Africa. For Africa to get to its first 100,000 cases, it took 98 days. But to get from 100,000 to 200,000 cases, which is double, it took only 18 days.
The Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria, Tweeted:
“Faceshields without facemask are not effective in COVID19 prevention. Faceshield is not a fashion accessory & must be combined with a mask to provide significant protection. Face shield protects only the face but facemask curbs the spread of respiratory droplets.”
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO’s Director-General said:
“The world is in a new and dangerous phase. We have a shared duty to do everything we can to prevent, detect and respond to the transmission of COVID-19 among refugee populations.”
The World Health Organisation (WHO), warned that the Coronavirus pandemic is “accelerating”.
As per the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in Africa, at the time of writing this, there are around 9,300 dead and almost 360,000 cases of Coronavirus.
